Bride's Proposal Story
On Christmas morning 2005, Rob and I were enjoying a hot cup of coffee and opening the presents under the tree (and for those of you who dont know, I absolutely LOVE opening presents - even my stocking stuffers are individually wrapped!). When the last present under the tree was opened, Rob said that I had TWO more presents to open. Now, if he had said one more present, I might have thought it was "the ring", but he said two so I was not expecting the engagement ring at all. He told me to grab my Christmas stocking and his gym bag from the closet. When I got back to the living room, I looked in the stocking and unwrapped a gift certificate to Tim Hortons (and I love Timmy's coffee, so this was an amazing gift!).
Then I unzipped the gym bag and saw a huge present!!! When I tore the wrapping paper off the box, there was another, slightly smaller wrapped box inside. So, I unwrapped that box to find yet ANOTHER slightly smaller wrapped box. This went on for some time until I read on one of the smaller boxes: will you marry me? Well, thats not entirely true - in all the excitement, I missed the first box that said "will", so it went more like: you marry me? The last box contained the most beautiful engagement ring! I think Rob mentioned something about marrying him (this part is blurry). I started crying and said yes!!!
Groom's Proposal Story
I suspected for some time that Darlene thought I would pop the question on our anniversary at the end of January. So, I thought that I would surprise her by asking her to marry me Christmas morning.
Knowing Darlene as well as I do, I know how much she loves wrapping and opening gifts. She even wraps each and every little part of a present separately! (Obviously, every sleeve of golf balls needs its own wrapping paper.) So, I decided to wrap up the ring in lots of different boxes and wrap every box separately. It was a lot of work, especially since I am a terrible gift wrapper, but after that Christmas my wrapping skills have improved dramatically. I hid the present in my gym bag since I knew she would never look in it, and on Christmas morning after all the other presents were open I told her that she was not finished. The rest you know from Darlenes version.
