Ever since that fateful day in high school chemistry when I ACCIDENTALLY burnt Darlene’s finger prints off, we’ve been inseparable – partly because she’s such a smart, kind and funny person, and partly because you don’t want to enrage a person without finger prints. :) Since then, we’ve had more fun, crazy, and downright strange times than I can even count.

I remember the time we went to Punta Cana and…oh wait…can’t tell that story. Ok, well there was that New Year’s in high school when you girls stayed over at my place and …hmmm…can’t tell that one either. Well, what about the time we went to Paparazzi’s for your birthday and we had to stop on the way there and…oh dear, can’t tell that one either. Ok, well I’ll think of something and get back to you.

Darlene, you’re my bestest friend in the whole wide world and I’m so happy that you’ve found such a perfect match in Rob. I’m so proud of you for all that you’ve accomplished, and I wish you both all the best as you start your new life together.

Now, let’s party!

Love Diana

Darlene is such a special person. I remember how excited she was when she would talk about Rob in highschool. When they first started dating, Darlene was over the moon! It hasn't worn off :) Congrats to both of you!

Dear Darlene,

I met Darlene when I began doing research at U of T in Steve's lab. I was so naive, and scared about conducting my first experiment. However, I had no reason to be afraid. Darlene took me under her wing and shared all her experiences with me. For someone who is so driven, and brilliant, she is also the least selfish person I know. If it was not for Darlene's support and guidance, I am not sure whether I would be where I am right now. Thank you!!! I wish you and Rob the absolute best!

Love,
Itanni

One of mine favorite stories about Darlene was one morning I was driving her to University. She thought it would be nice to pick up MacDonalds breakfast. We did and driving out of the parking lot, I noticed what looked like smoke coming from the steering wheel. I said Darlene, is that steam from your coffee because it was a chilly morning. She said no, then I saw more puffs coming out again. The plaza was right there so I pulled in. I said Darlene take your seatbelt off and get out of the car, get out of the car now. We called her Dad and he came and it was the airbag. We had many good laughs over that. Darlene said Mom, I have never heard you say anything so clear and calm in my life.
Love You,
Mom XOXO

One of Darlene's Dad's favourite and funny stories was one morning when she went to work at Eaton's. At 6.00 a.m. she called her father to say she had just parked the car and was out of the car but it was still running. Her Dad said Darlene, get back in the car and turn it off. She said Dad, I did and I have the keys in my hand. He then said Darlene, just listen to me, now get back in the car and turn it off. She again told him it. He didn't believe it and then went up to see and sure enough it was. What had happened was the fan motor was stuck and running. She was right and many times since then her and I have had many good laughs
Love You,
Dad
